CLAUDE MARION SHAWBELL III

1943-2015

" Life is short, art is long – Hippocrates. "

Local Artist and Renaissance man, Claude Marion Shawbell III passed away of natural causes at his home this past Wednesday.  Claude’s legacy is left in his fine art landscapes that depict the Grand Canyon and many of northern Arizona’s Indian ruins to Hawaii’s beaches and waves.  His art as well as the intensive genealogical study and documentation of his family’s lineage will remain as staples of his passion and life’s work.  Having lived in Northern Arizona for the past 40 years many in the community will remember the man behind the art as one of those unique characters whose intelligence, work ethic, and passion allowed him to accomplish almost anything and be a part of so many lives.  His spirit lives on in his children Hollin, John, Vanessa, and Carly, their spouses, his 5 grand children, as well as the countless people he was able inspire through his art, storytelling, and friendship.

Those wishing to celebrate Claude’s life are welcome to attend a service at the Flagstaff American Legion Post #3 on Thursday May 21st at 4pm.
